Guitarist Ashton Sellars is a passionate, exciting young musician making a name for himself in both the Wellington and wider New Zealand jazz scenes.
Completing his honours degree in jazz performance/composition in 2013, Ashton plays regularly at venues around Wellington and beyond.
He complements these gigs with experience performing in festivals alongside the likes of Tim Hopkins, Paul Dyne, Ruben Bradley and Mark Lockett. Ashton has also played with Bruce Foreman in a big band setting.
While jazz is his main passion and musical focus, Ashton also performs with neo-soul group Brockaflower and the newly formed hip-hop trio, Dugtrio.
Ashton’s sound is greatly influenced by musicians such as Bill Evans, Kenny Barron, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Gilad Hekselman and Jonathan Kreisberg, to name a few.
